Alexandre Lagoya is one of the prominent figures in early 20th century guitar history. He was born in Egypt, and his early life included both Boxing and the guitar. In the early 1950’s, Lagoya married french guitarist Ida Presti, and played in a duo with her until Presti’s death in 1967. After the loss of his wife, Lagoya took a break from guitar. Eventually he returned to the instrument, first as a teacher and then, in the 1970’s, Lagoya burst back into the performance scene with a new recording and a concert tour. Lagoya passed away in 1999, leaving numerous recordings, scores, and arrangements for future guitarists.
