Polish composer Alexandre Tansman was born in 1897 and spent his early years in Poland. Tansman lived most of his life in Paris, however, and died there in 1986. Young Alexandre’s musical tastes were not appreciated in Poland, but they were encouraged in Paris by his mentors Stravinsky and Ravel. Tansman repeatedly made it known that he considered himself a composer firmly rooted in the musical traditions of his native Poland.
